Church Structure: Rejection of Unity

It is clearly affirmed in Scripture (e.g. I Corinthians 12) that the Church is expected to be diverse, in terms of the gifts and activities of its people. However, diversity does not imply disunity. Ephesians 4:4-6 affirms seven bases for the unity of the Church:

"There is one body and one Spirit -- just as you were called to one hope when you were called -- one Lord, one faith, one baptism: one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (NIV).
