by William Perry, Spring 1998
After last year's installation of traffic islands on Tildenwood Drive, Old Stage Road and Tilden Lane, the Tilden Woods Citizens Association wanted to evaluate if traffic problems continue on Tildenwood Drive and Old Stage Road. Hence, in September 1997 our Citizens Association requested Montgomery County's Department of Transportation to perform speed studies on Tildenwood Drive and Old Stage Road. Below are the resluts of a County 1996 speed study completed on Tildenwood Drive and the recent studies completed on Tildenwood Drive and Old Stage Road:

The above figures show that Tilden Woods continues to have traffic problems, particularly on Tildenwood Drive. These figures indicate that the traffic problems on Tildenwood Drive have become much worse over the past two years. The most alarming numbers are the 394 vehicles per hour on Tildenwood Drive with 156 of these vehicles exceeding 34 mph, which means 40% of this high volume of traffic are citable offenders. Our new traffic islands look really nice but they do not appear to be improving our traffic problems.
Speed Humps for Tildenwood Driveby William Perry, Spring 1998
In light of these serious traffic problems on Tildenwood Drive, I urge our community to consider flat top speed humps -- the larger and gentler kind of speed humps -- only on Tildenwood Drive for the following reasons:
Please let our Citizens Association know your opinion about installing speed humps only on Tildenwood Drive.
